Southern Miss extended to a four-game winning streak after defeating No. 18 ranked Tulane 7-2 on a Wednesday matchup at Pete Taylor Park.
Coming off a win against the previous night against South Alabama, the Golden Eagles’ performance had some Déjà vu as they defeated another nationally ranked team during midweek.
The offense got it going early, scoring three runs in the second inning off two errors by the Green Wave.
The Green Wave scored a run in the fourth inning to cut the Golden Eagles’ lead to two runs.
But, in the fifth inning, Reece Ewing hit a two-run bomb to right field to widen the lead again.
Also, Christopher Sargent hit a home run in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Dustin Dickerson also had a productive game at-bat, having his third straight three-hit game on the season.
“I definitely went on a little slump and then just came out and got my work in and trusted the plan and I moved down to the nine-hole but still trusted the plan,” Dickerson said.
Tanner Hall started for the Golden Eagles on the mound and picked up where he left off in his last start against Mississippi State.
Hall finished the game throwing eight innings with 92 pitches with 77 strikes, eight strikeouts, four hits, one run (unearned), and no walks.
This 92-pitch outing was the longest of his career.
“Sinker, changeup, I threw quite a few of those and I think I threw maybe one or two sliders,” Hall said. “They were doing their job too, but overall it was the sinker just getting ahead early, getting early strikes on them and making them struggle in the box.”
With the performance, Hall improves to 2-0 on the season and his current ERA for the season is 0.84.
Chandler Best finished the game for Hall, although he is not credited with the save.
The Golden Eagles are currently 10-3 on the season and now, the Golden Eagles travel to Dallas to take on Dallas Baptist in a three-game series this weekend.
